Air Rescue UK was delighted to welcome cadets and staff from the Clacton Royal Air Force Air Cadets to our UK training facility at Sentinel House in Harwich, providing an introduction to the world of helicopter search and rescue and the specialist skills involved in hoist operations.

The visit gave the cadets an opportunity to step inside a professional aviation training environment and gain an insight into the people, technology and procedures that support real-world Search and Rescue (SAR), Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) and Helicopter Hoist Operations (HHO).

During the session, our team provided a crash course in helicopter search and rescue, exploring how specialist crews work together during complex rescue missions and the important role that technical crew and hoist operators play in delivering safe and effective outcomes.

The cadets were also given a tour of our Sentinel House facility, including our dedicated hoist training infrastructure. A key highlight of the visit was a demonstration of our advanced simulation capabilities, including the Bluedrop Training & Simulation Hoist Mission Training System (HMTS).

The HMTS provides a highly immersive training environment, allowing crews to practise and develop their skills in realistic operational scenarios. For the cadets, it offered a unique opportunity to see first-hand how technology and simulation are being used to prepare aviation professionals for the challenges they may encounter in the real world.

The enthusiasm and engagement shown throughout the visit were impressive, with the cadets demonstrating a genuine interest in aviation, engineering, technology and emergency response. We were particularly pleased to see so many thoughtful questions and such a strong willingness to learn.

At Air Rescue UK, we believe that supporting the next generation of aviation professionals is an important part of our role within the industry. Opportunities to engage with organisations such as the Royal Air Force Air Cadets allow young people to gain an understanding of the diverse career paths available within aviation, while giving them the chance to experience specialist training environments that they may otherwise never have access to.

We would like to thank the staff and cadets from the Clacton Royal Air Force Air Cadets for visiting Sentinel House and for making the session such an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

We look forward to continuing to support and inspire the next generation of aviation talent.
